Calendula 2008 Herb of the Year
Calendula (Calendula Officinalis) is the 2008 Herb of the Year! Calendula with its bright yellow and orange flowers, are a familiar sight in country and cottage gardens. The plant is a native of Southern Europe and the Canary Islands but flourishes in cool, temperate climates. The petals have a pungent spicy flavor and the leaves, a bitter aftertaste. Calendula is used more for medicinal and crafting than culinary purposes. Dried flowers, however, are grounded and used in place of saffron in rice, stews and soups. The flowers dry nicely and add a beautiful burst of color to herb and flower arrangements. The hardy annual grows to a height of 9 to 20 inches and blooms from spring through the fall.
The plant prefers a rich, light soil in a sunny location. Add compost to the soil, if necessary, then side-dress with additional compost when the plants are well established. Water deeply during dry spells. Calendula re-seeds readily.

Green Tea of the Week: "Clouds & Mist" Green Tea!
Clouds & Mist is a delightful green tea for those who love a refreshing yet strong tea. This green tea has a fine, twisted leaf that is good for up to 6-8 infusions per pot. The first infusions have a bold, fresh, snappy meadow grass flavor. Don't forget to 'wash' your tea with hot water for a quick 10 seconds before the first infusion. With classic full-bodied green teas such as Clouds & Mist or Precious Eyebrows, washing the tea, brewing with cooler water, and a shorter brew time are all important factors in making sure your cup of green tea will match your individual taste preferences. This green tea is grown in China, and is a real “must have” for any green tea lover! Featured for only $1.99 per oz, and qualifies for our "Buy 4, Get 1 Free" pricing.

If you are a green tea drinker, there’s nothing better than a drop of our honey to make it taste even better!
